I'm finally getting my pictures uploaded to my trekshare account here. It was supposed to be for my family to look at what's going on, but I've hardly updated it. It's not the best photo site, but since my parents are chugging away on a 56k modem it loads quickly. Well, at least I'm getting pictures up now. There's nothing that fantastic, but look if you like. x.x

Long entry cut because I know some of you appreciate it. ^_^

I went to see bunraku (Japanese puppetry) for the first time the other day. I had a really good time. It's just beautiful how three men can move one puppet together. From my seat in the 11th row the puppets' posture and movement really looked like an actual person. And the narrator was so amusing to watch! XD I didn't realize that there was going to be a script subtitle above the stage. More tech. than I expected, but I guess one of the things they don't want to lose about bunraku (while maintaining the texts) is it's accessibility. They had English headsets with "comments" and "plot explanation" every now and then, but it annoyed me after awhile because the headset changes sounds and I really like just listening to the innotonation of the narrator and the shamisen. And usually the moment I would take it off, the commentary would say something after 10 minutes of silence. Rawr.

I was happy because I actually knew something about 2 of the 3 stories. In fact, maybe [livejournal.com profile] paura recalls last spring when the buyo dance troupe came to Gettysburg and did the introductory Sambaso dance with the colorful costumes and bells. Now I've seen the bunraku version of Sambaso! XD! During the next performance the only thing I really knew about it was it's relation to Kanadehon Chushingura as a spin-off. And...I'm not proud to admit, but I kinda dozed off during part of that one. ^^; But, I awoke in time to see the good bits. And the last one I must have read about when I was working on a paper on kabuki about the spirit of a willow that takes human form and happily marries a man, but one day the tree is cut down to be used for the new Sanjusangendo temple and she dies.

I wandered around Osaka after that and bought my mom some rice bowls at Daimaru. For some reason when I got back to the seminar house I was bored out of my mind. So, I did the Versailles no Bara 500 piece jigsaw puzzle I bought at Takarazuka. This is an event because I strictly have too short of an attention span to do puzzles. But, this one was colorful and fun. (Oscar!)

Oh and by the way it's 成人の日! Coming of Age day! And lucky me, in Japan I came of age at 20 this past year. ^_^ Past host family is taking me out on Friday and we're going to celebrate!

I was planning to go to Sanjusangendo for the archery ceremony today (I've been dying to go to this thing since I first visited the temple in 2002). Then I realized that although Mizuho pounded it into my head when Coming of Age Day is, they do it on the closest Sunday after Coming of Age Day, the 15th. =p

So, I didn't do anything today but come online to chat, laundry, eat, and watch the 2 and a half hour long Conan special. Yikes. It was good and thankfully through the Conan magic of "let's repeat the plot over and over again" I wasn't confused about all the "new" characters. I obviously need to expand my understanding of liquor names for the organization. ^^;; I felt bad about hogging the television for 2.5 hours, so I vacated even though I wanted to watch Saiyuki.

I found a box to mail Kat's present in! Yay! (Yes, I'm this happy over a box. Goddamnit, they are in short supply. >.> I never have the right box when I need one! Someday I'm going to have a house...possibily an apartment closet full of boxes so I will never be in need ever again. Grrr.)

You'll get to see it when you come to Kansai Gaidai~! The theatre's right in Osaka by Nipponbashi. Anyway, you get to take a class on Japanese theatre next semester. I envy!
